Sunrisers Eastern Cape (SEC) will have to win a battle on two fronts in their SA20 qualifier on Wednesday. One will be overcoming a bullish Pretoria Capitals (PC) and the other will be the unpredictable nature of the Kingsmead pitch.
SEC are gunning for their third title in four seasons of the SA20, and are still favourites after finishing the group stage top of the log.
PC ended second on the table, which is significant as the top two teams will have two chances at making the final. The winner of qualifier one will progress straight to the final, while the loser will take on the winner of the eliminator between Paarl Royals and Joburg Super Kings on Thursday.
Playing at Kingsmead though, will not really suit either side, but SEC’s Matthew Breetzke is confident his team will be able to adapt.
Breetzke Discusses Kingsmead Experience and Strategy for Upcoming Match
“I would like to think that my experience playing at Kingsmead is going to help us come on Wednesday. In saying that, you’re never really sure what you’re going to get at Kingsmead. It could be a slow turner or it could be a really good wicket,” Breetzke told SportsBoom.co.za.
“So, I’m going to have to assess that early on. Quinny (De Kock) and Johnny (Bairstow) will have to assess that early on, and we can take it from there and see what a good score is. So, I think reading the conditions will be really important.”
The final of the competition will be held at Newlands on Sunday.
