It’s the hope that gets you, explains Shaun Bartlett on Kaizer Chiefs as PSL teams prepare for league resumption

Former Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) winner Shaun Bartlett is more than ready to see Kaizer Chiefs deliver a season to remember, ahead of the resumption of the Betway Premiership on January 19.

The league paused ahead of the festive period and extended the break for Afcon, which is currently underway in Morocco.

Chiefs went into the league hiatus well-placed in fourth spot, just four behind the table-topping Orlando Pirates and two behind the reigning champions, Mamelodi Sundowns.

It means the second half of the season is poised to be a more exciting affair than in recent times, with Sundowns winning the last eight titles in a row.

Kaizer Chiefs: Battling Inconsistency Amidst Recent Silverware Success

“Yeah, you know when I think about Kaizer Chiefs, it’s only one word that comes to mind. Every time I speak about them, it’s inconsistency,” Bartlett told  in an exclusive interview.

“They give you that little bit of hope of winning two games, and then suddenly they go a bit off track and they struggle for form again. So I think that that is the biggest challenge they have at this moment in time.”

Chiefs last won the league in the 2014/2015 season. However, they won their first piece of silverware in a decade when they lifted the Nedbank Cup last season.

First in action after the break will be Mamelodi Sundowns on Monday, January 19, when they host Orbit College at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria.

A day later, Chiefs will mark their return against Golden Arrows at FNB Stadium in Johannesburg.
