WeBuyCars launches own inspection service as it drops Dekra’s vehicle condition reports

WeBuyCars has ditched Dekra Automotive for vehicle condition reports, replacing it with its own subsidiary, Inspectify, in an attempt to provide clearermore accurate information to customers.

This move comes just a month after the automotive retail giant was hit with a R6 million settlement with the National Consumer Commission, following complaints that its sales agreements were unclear or in breach of the Consumer Protection Act.

There also appear to have been complaints from consumers over the quality and accuracy of vehicle condition reports, with some buyers stating that previous Dekra reports were difficult to understand.

The company’s Head of Strategy, Willem Kloppers, told that Inspectify was created to improve transparency and consistency in vehicle inspections, giving customers clearermore understandable information about the cars they are considering.

“WeBuyCars has discontinued the use of Dekra’s used vehicle condition reports, which previously served as an informational tool for customers to assess the condition of vehicles on our showroom floors. However, two of our smaller supermarkets (East London and Polokwane) still make use of the Dekra reports,” Kloppers said.

“We anticipate that all supermarkets will complete the transition to Inspectify within the next quarter.”

Kloppers also said it was important to note that “WeBuyCars continues to utilise Dekra and other accredited roadworthy test centres for the legally mandated roadworthy inspections required prior to licensing a vehicle, in full compliance with South African law”.

Inspectify, which was established in 2025 as a wholly owned subsidiary of WeBuyCars, employs trained technicians and follows strict quality-control procedures. According to Kloppers, all testing equipment is regularly calibrated and independently audited to ensure consistency and accuracy.

“Inspectify is a wholly owned subsidiary of WeBuyCars, established in 2025, and is therefore not structurally independent. However, its inspection processes are independently audited, and an external firm has already conducted a satisfactory independent review of Inspectify’s operational standards.”

“Under both the previous Dekra model and the current Inspectify framework, WeBuyCars has always accepted responsibility for the accuracy and completeness of the information presented to customers,” he said.

Kloppers explained that Inspectify reports focus on a vehicle’s observable condition and roadworthy-relevant items.

“While these reports do not constitute comprehensive mechanical evaluations, customers are always encouraged — and welcome — to obtain independent assessments should they wish to do so.”
