Floyd Shivambu has been removed as the Umkhonto Wesizwe Party’s secretary-general.
At a press briefing hosted in Durban on Tuesday, the MK Party said this comes after that an investigation into Shivambu’s trip to Malawi to visit to fugitive pastor, Shepherd Bushiri’s Enlightend Church in Malawi found that it went against the party’s constitution.
This comes after months of contention surrounding Shivambu who left his previous party, the Economic Freedom Fighters and joined the MK Party in August last year.
Shivambu recently came under fire for his visit to Shepherd Bushiri’s Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG) in Malawi on Good Friday. In a statement, the MK Party said Shivambu’s visit was not sanctioned by party leadership.
It has also been rumoured that Shivambu’s arrival at the MK Party left many within the party divided.
Senior insiders previously confirmed to that one camp favours Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, daughter of former president and party founder Jacob Zuma, while the other supports Shivambu. This division has reportedly left members confused and unsettled.
