Legendary South African singer and songwriter Simphiwe Dana has called out President Cyril Ramaphosa for literally ignoring artists during the pandemic.

Simphiwe took to her Twitter account to express her disgruntle with how President Ramaphosa and his government blatantly ignored the art industry in the midst of the pandemic.

“I’m also quite unimpressed with how our president has ignored the arts during this pandemic. But he will be ‘shocked’ when things completely fall apart in this sector,” Simphiwe tweeted.

Simphiwe went on to lay to bare the similarities between the art industry and political fields, emphasising that working in these fields means having more than just a job.

Simphiwe Dana is not the only celebrity to call out President Ramaphosa and his governance for the manner in which they have treated artists and others in the art and culture industry.

DJ Shimza took to his Twitter account last year to call out Art and Culture minister Nathi Mthethwa for the way he handled artists during the pandemic.

The musician called him a useless minister after failing to implement any proper policy that will make sure artists and event organizers don’t lose their means of making earn meet which is performing at gigs.
