Emergency services were dispatched to a Standard Bank branch in Constantia Kloof, Roodepoort, on Tuesday morning following reports of a fire at about 09:10.
City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (EMS) said firefighters were sent to the bank, located at the corner of Ellis and Carnation streets, where evacuation and firefighting operations were immediately initiated.
According to EMS media officer Xolile Khumalo, all staff members were safely evacuated and accounted for during the operation.
The fire was contained, with firefighters remaining on site to conduct damping-down operations to ensure there were no flare-ups. Smoke was still present in the area as crews continued their work.
EMS confirmed that no staff injuries were reported at the time of the incident.
The cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed, and no further details were immediately available.
Last year, reported that the City of Joburg EMS firefighting crews were mobilised to respond to a fire incident at South African Breweries (SAB) in Soweto.
“The blaze reportedly began when grass in a nearby field caught fire. This soon spread quickly and ignited storage crates on the premises,” Khumalo said at the time.
There were no reported injuries, and emergency teams worked to contain the raging fire.
Witnesses and users on social media reported seeing thick plumes of smoke rising from the brewery, which prompted immediate concern among locals about the potential devastation.
