Having been away from home for the entirety of 2026 so far, the Sunrisers Eastern Cape are set to return to St George’s Park for the first time this year for their second-leg fixture against Durban’s Super Giants today.
Independent Media’s picks six players to watch in the contest.
Sunrisers Eastern Cape
Marco Jansen
Jansen is one of the few players who have been with the Sunrisers since the inaugural season. With the team returning to St George’s Park for the first time on Sunday, the lanky seam-bowling all-rounder will be one to watch. He will be the leader of what is a relatively new squad in what is expected to be a sold-out affair in Gqeberha.
Quinton de Kock
Since De Kock joined the Sunrisers Eastern Cape this season, he has been a totally different player. Along with Jonny Bairstow at the top of the order, De Kock has been largely destructive and yet measured when the match situation has demanded it. The left-hander currently has 205 runs, with two half-centuries and a highest score of 79 not out. He will be the one batter the Durban’s Super Giants will be desperate to see heading back to the pavilion.
Anrich Nortje
Gqeberha is Nortje’s hometown, a city that holds a special place in his heart, having made his rise at St George’s Park. Every game the fast bowler plays in Gqeberha is an opportunity to give back to the very city that provided him with the chance to live his dream. On Sunday, whether he is steaming in from the Duckpond End or the Park Drive End, there will be fear instilled in the Super Giants’ batters. The fast bowler currently has nine wickets in the four matches he has played thus far, with best figures of 4/13.
Durban’s Super Giants
Jos Buttler
Buttler has certainly been the standout batter for the Super Giants this season, with the unbeaten 97 he scored against the Pretoria Capitals earlier this week a highlight of the competition so far. Having been moved one batting position down this year, the former England captain has adapted beautifully and will look to continue his dominance in Gqeberha on Sunday, despite facing a seriously good attack led by Nortje, Jansen and Adam Milne.
Sunil Narine
One game into the competition, despite not picking up a wicket, Narine has already shown his experience, having returned economical figures of 0/22 in his allotted four overs at Kingsmead earlier this week. He will most likely take the new ball at St George’s Park and should take the opening position with the bat as well, giving him the best chance of being the dominant all-rounder the world has grown to admire.
Eathan Bosch
Bosch is currently the leading wicket-taker for the Super Giants this season with a tally of five wickets in five games. The right-arm seamer will be crucial for the Super Giants as he has a good understanding of the conditions at St George’s Park, playing at the venue frequently in domestic cricket.
