Mzansi’s favourite polygamic family, the Mselekus, are coming back to your screens with season 9 of Uthando neS’thembu, premiering on Wednesday 4 February at 20:00. The much-loved reality show will once again air twice a week, on Wednesday and Thursday, on Mzansi Magic channel 161 on DStv. As one of South Africa’s most talked-about reality TV shows, the new season promises drama, emotion, and difficult conversations that many viewers have been waiting to see unfold.
The return of Uthando neS’thembu comes after the bombshell revelations from the show’s special, #Uncut: Uthando neS’thembu, which shocked many viewers. The special took audiences behind the scenes and gave them exclusive, never-before-seen footage. These #Uncut episodes allowed viewers to see what really happens when the cameras are usually off, bringing them closer to the real struggles within the Mseleku family. Season 9 kicks off with tensions running high, as the #Uncut episodes revealed the breakdown that had started forming within the family, the results of which have now become clear.
In the new season, the wives, MaCele, MaYeni, MaNgwabe, and MaKhumalo, continue to face their own challenges within the polygamous marriage. Some of the wives are still not happy that Musa Mseleku brought MaKhwela, also known as “Number 5”, into the family. This decision has clearly caused deep divisions, emotional pain, and unresolved conflict. Viewers will see how each wife processes these changes in her own way, while trying to protect her space, her marriage, and her dignity.
According to Mzansi Magic, a major question in season 9 is how MaKhwela is coping with the situation. How is she dealing with this continuous rejection, and how long can she hold on for? Her presence has shifted the balance in the family, and it remains to be seen whether she will eventually be accepted or continue to feel isolated.
Isithembu sikaMseleku, something that once represented togetherness and tradition, is now looking like it is in serious jeopardy. The strong family unit that viewers admired in earlier seasons appears to be under strain like never before. With emotions running high and relationships tested, many are left wondering if Musa Mseleku is able to keep it all together, or if the seams of this union are slowly becoming undone.
Season 9 of Uthando neS’thembu promises honest moments, difficult truths, and emotional confrontations. As the Mselekus return to television, viewers can expect a season filled with tension, reflection, and powerful storytelling that shows the reality behind polygamous family life in modern South Africa.
