As the new year unfolds, Springboks player RG Snyman has made a bold change, opting for a dramatic buzz cut.
Known affectionately as “the Viking”, Snyman has traded in his iconic mohawk for a fresh, clean look that has garnered attention across social media.
His Irish club, Leinster, showcased Snyman’s new hairstyle on their Instagram page, asking fans, “Did you spot RG’s new look?”
The response has been mixed, with some fans expressing concern that cutting off his hair might impact his sporting prowess.
User @rub_the_dub commented, “Hope he’s not like Samson and cut his hair, cut his power 😮.”

In contrast, other fans embraced the change.
@mrseunice64 stated: “Still a Viking 🔥.”
@zahnleanne added: “Anything he does is super cool!”
@mariusnielsen9288, praised the new look, saying, “Much better RG. 🔥🔥🔥🔥.”
Snyman, who stands at an impressive 2.06m tall, previously sported long blonde locks and a beard, contributing to his fierce Viking persona.
He also has a tattoo of a Norse-inspired warrior on his upper arm, reflecting his fascination with Viking history.
“I’ve always been fascinated by Viking history,” Snyman shared regarding his tattoo.
When it comes to setting hair trends, Snyman has always been on the ball.
The Viking gave his Springboks teammates fresh new cuts following the Springboks’ triumphant victory at the 2023 Rugby World Cup.
In a celebratory spirit, several of Snyman’s teammates, including Eben Etzebeth, Damian Willemse, Jasper Wiese, Cobus Reinach, and Jean Kleyn, had their hair cut by Snyman in a drunken revelry.
The players proudly sported makeshift mohawks during the countrywide trophy tour that followed.
Leinster will take on La Rochelle in the European Rugby Championship Cup at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin.
