Forfeiture orders worth more than R300,000 have been granted to the state following a series of crime-related seizures carried out in the Northern Cape during 2025.
According to the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, also known as the Hawks, the Kimberley High Court granted the forfeiture orders to the Hawks’ Asset Forfeiture Investigation and the National Prosecuting Authority Asset Forfeiture Unit after several successful operations across the province.
In one incident, police officers attached to the Serven SAPS were inspecting livestock at the Madibeng community kraals during a livestock auction when they recovered 16 goats suspected of being stolen.
The animals were found inside a bakkie, and the suspect was immediately arrested. The vehicle, valued at about R35,000, was seized as it was allegedly used in the commission of the crime.
In a separate case, Vosburg police officials conducting routine patrols spotted a grey GWM single-cab bakkie travelling in the Vosburg policing area while transporting sheep. The driver failed to produce a permit to transport livestock and was arrested on the spot.
The vehicle, valued at R115,300, was confiscated and later forfeited to the state.
In another unrelated incident, police recovered six bags of dagga inside a bakkie. The suspects were arrested and the vehicle, worth R41,900, was seized for further investigation before being forfeited to the state.
Another forfeiture involved a vehicle valued at R114,900, confiscated after police found it transporting mandrax tablets in the Douglas area.
The Hawks’ Northern Cape provincial head, Major General Stephen Mabuela, congratulated the team for their efforts and praised their contribution to the successes achieved.
