Netflix has officially announced that the next chapter in the beloved How To Ruin franchise is on the way, and Sivenathi Mabuya-Bukani is front and centre as she returns to her fan-favourite role. How To Ruin Love: The Lobola will premiere on 19 December 2025, bringing back the drama, humour, and heartfelt moments that made viewers fall in love with the series.
The new season picks up after Zoleka and Kagiso’s messy yet heartwarming love story. Played by Sivenathi and Bohang Moeko, the couple is now stepping into the emotional and sometimes stressful journey of lobola negotiations. After Zoleka ruined her own surprise proposal by assuming her partner was cheating, this season sees her fighting to fix things and secure her happy ending.
In this chapter, the story dives deep into the challenges of bringing two families together—traditions, pride, secrets, and all. Sivenathi makes her full lover-girl comeback as she navigates these pressures while preparing to become a wife.
Speaking to Drum, she explained how much her character has grown.
“There’s now a more mature side to her that comes out because she’s now stepping into this new journey that she’s always wanted to be on,” she said. “We get to see her step into the role of being a wife… she’s confident that the wedding is going to happen… they’ve faced every possible obstacle and challenge together. They now know they can get through anything, and the happy ending is now at arm’s length.”
As someone who is married in real life, the storyline hit close to home for Sivenathi. It brought back memories of her own wedding preparations and lobola experience.
“It just reminded me so much of the beauty of love and my personal journey… It brought back memories, it’s so relatable,” she shared.
This season is also special because she felt like she was playing a version of herself. What many fans don’t know is that she was actually four months pregnant during filming, something that surprised everyone after shooting wrapped.
“It felt like I was shooting in slow motion… I kept on feeling paranoid about my pregnancy because there’s a lot of physicality this time around,” she said. She was grateful for the support on set. “I realised how important it is to work with people you completely trust… I felt safe throughout. It was surprisingly easier than I thought it would be.”
Now a mom to a two-month-old baby boy, Sivenathi says motherhood has changed her life.
“I love being a mom… I enjoy being a mom more than a mom-to-be… I’m in my element,” she added warmly.
