Mahama Says That The NPP Has Laid A Trap For Them

President-elect John Dramani Mahama has accused the outgoing government of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of intentionally leaving behind substantial financial challenges, which he believes are meant to obstruct the smooth functioning of his incoming administration. According to Mahama, these financial burdens are strategically designed to undermine his ability to govern effectively when he assumes office on January 7, 2025.

In a recent speech to National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters, Mahama outlined several significant debts accumulated during President Akufo-Addo’s tenure, describing them as deliberate obstacles meant to destabilize his future leadership. Despite the severity of these financial issues, Mahama remained optimistic, expressing confidence that with divine guidance, his administration would be able to overcome these challenges and lead the country toward success.

One of the major debts Mahama highlighted was the outstanding payment owed to the West African Examinations Council (WAEC). WAEC has issued a warning that, without payment, it may withhold the results of the West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE). Additionally, Mahama pointed out the government’s unpaid fees for the Free Senior High School (SHS) program. The Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) has reported that arrears have been accumulating since 2021. Another major financial issue mentioned by Mahama is a $2 billion electricity debt that remains unresolved.

In response to critics, including an NPP member who suggested that his presidency could lead to food shortages and power cuts, Mahama called on Ghanaians to place their trust in God for wisdom and guidance. He assured the public that, with divine support, his government would find solutions to these pressing issues and restore prosperity to the country.

Mahama concluded his address by reminding his supporters that his victory in the December 7 elections was a clear sign of divine favor. He encouraged Ghanaians to pray for strength and guidance as the nation faces its current economic difficulties, expressing belief that divine intervention would lead to a brighter future. As the NDC prepares to take office, many citizens are hopeful about the changes the new administration may bring.
