Two-times world cross country junior champion Philip Mosima clocked 30:36.0 to win the Safaricom M-Pesa 10km road race in Kisii town yesterday. The event is part of three-part Safaricom Gusii Golden Series. Kericho-based Isaac Langat came second in 30:39.0 while Nyanturago’s Emmanuel Ng’atuny clocked 30:45.1 to finish third in a closely contested race.
“I’m feeling ok and raring to go. I am now targeting the 10th edition of the Safaricom Kebirigo 10km road race,” said Mosima, who is making a come back. Following the win, Mosima is now in the driving seat to pocket Sh50,000 jackpot if he wins the final race. Others in the race are Emmanuel Bett who won the first race in Gucha.
Damaris Areba won the women’s race after posting 34:44.58 and is now favourite to clinch the jackpot next month. She had finished second in the first leg. Jane Moraa came second in 35:52.16 Boston Half Marathon winner Caroline Kilel was third in 36:03.44. Peninah Kigen was fourth in 36:54.06. The 2004 Olympics 5,000m silver medallist Isabella Ochichi also making a comeback finished in sixth in a time of 37:28.32.
