National Women League resumes tomorrow

CHAIRMAN of the Women Professional League, Dili Onyedimma, says the board has put in place structures that would make the competition the best since Nigeria started playing the female game.

The Women League resumes tomorrow across the country after a break occasioned by the presence of several club-side players in the national teams. Onyedimma said: “We used the break period to appraise the earlier stages of the league and are optimistic that the home stretch will be much better than what we had earlier.

“We are resolved to package a league that every Nigerian would be proud of and the break helped us in this regard. The league supplies players to the national teams and we are glad the result of suspending the league was the Flamingoes and Falconets picking World Cup tickets.

“We plan to boost the quality of the league so as to improve on the quality of players that are supplied to the national teams.”

The league, which resumes with the Week Eight games, will see Pelican Stars tackle Nasarawa Amazons in Group A. In the same group, Sunshine Queens will host Cerezo Queens, Kogi Confluence battles with Inneh Queens, Ibom Angels tackles Oguche Babes, while FCT Queens will host Adamawa Queens.

In Group B, Tokas Queens will host Rivers Angels, Bayelsa Queens will tackle Osun Babes, Garden Queens will be at home to Nito Queens, Delta Queens is billed to entertain FC Robo, while Police Machine will battle it out with Tewo Queens.
