Lagos House directs Mushin LG to sack Ladipo traders exco

LAGOS State House of Assembly has directed the Mushin Local Government to dissolve leadership of Ladipo Market Traders’ Association headed by Jonathan Okoli and set up a Caretaker/Market Management Committee to run the affairs of the association in the next three months to end the leadership crisis that had engulfed the traders’ association in the past five years.

In a recommendation by the House Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Public Petitions, it declared that the leadership crisis bedeviling the market had degenerated into unprecedented violence just as it had become a major threat to peace in the local government.

According to the House,  the committee should consist of three representatives each from the Okoli group; the Okechukwu Imo group, Paramo Development Ventures, and the Mushin Local Government Area,  with the aim of taking  charge of affairs of the market, ensuring peace, as well as organising a free and fair election of new executive within three months.

The recommendation followed a petition by one of the factions to crisis to the Committee and subsequent public hearing detailing the genesis of the problem.

In a 12 -point recommendations signed by the Chairman of Committee, Mr. Agunbiade S.O.B, dated May 7, 2012, the House barred about 10 individuals identified as parties to the crisis including  Okoli, from participating in the running of the association either in the caretaker committee or the election of new executive.
