BRIGADIER-GENERAL Thomas Allotey, a senior military officer who recently retired from active service, has been honoured by the Ministry of Defence.

This was to appreciate his dedicated and meritorious service to Ghana while he was in the army.

The ministry led by Defence Minister, Brigadier-General J.H. Smith, on Friday organized a farewell party for Brigadier-General Allotey.

A placard and various presents were presented to him and his wife, Mrs. Rosina Allotey as part of efforts by the staff to express their gratitude to the former Chief of Defence Staff (CDS).

A citation issued to Brigadier-General Allotey, among other things indicated that after his posting to the ministry on May 24, 2006, he distinguished himself remarkably as a professional soldier, a lawyer and judge advocate.

“He brought his wide experiences as Director of the GAF and Deputy Judge Advocate-General to bear on the activities and functions of his office and beyond,” it added.

Brigadier-General Allotey was sworn into office and posted to the Ministry of Defence on May 24, 2006, as Deputy Judge Advocate General prior to his position as an Assistant Director of Legal Service at the Legal Directorate of the Ghana Armed Forces.

The defence minister, in a statement, expressed gratitude to Brigadier-General Allotey saying as Judge Advocate-General, his selfless service had an enduring impact on all departments at the ministry.

He noted that the ministry has always been in shape particularly since the CDS has always been an excellent leader and a team player who has not spared any opportunity to contribute to issues bordering on the development of the ministry.

Gen. Smith said “Although you may be retiring from active service, it is our hope and belief that you will continue to make available your invaluable knowledge and experience to the GAF should you be called upon to do so.”

In his remarks, Brigadier-General Allotey, thanked the minister and his staff for the honour done him, assuring them that he will continue to share his experience with the GAF anytime they may need his assistance.

He also used the occasion to call the youth to be dedicated and determined where ever they might find themselves.
