The Brikama Magistrates Court, presided over by Magistrate Babucarr Secka on Monday, 27th June 2011 convicted one Fatoumata Hydara to pay a fine of D750, in default to serve two weeks’ imprisonment for the offence of impersonation, contrary to Section 355 of the Criminal Code, Laws of The Gambia.
The particulars of the offence stated that on or about 7th June 2011 at the Banjul International Airport in Kombo North, West Coast Region, while profiling officials of Spanish Airlines were checking passengers, the accused presented herself with a Swedish passport number 52674273 bearing the name of one Caock Mari Nyima Onoike to the officials, with intent to travel to Spain, thereby committed an offence.
When the charge sheet was read to the accused, she pleaded guilty. The police prosecutor Sergeant 413 Sanyang read out the facts and tendered the passport as exhibit. The presiding magistrate however sentenced her accordingly.
