Pretoria — Bafana Bafana has dropped nine places to number 47 in the latest Coca Cola FIFA World Rankings released on Wednesday.
However, on the continent, South Africa has moved down four spots to position seven.
Things have also changed at the top of the CAF rankings, with Ivory Coast overtaking Ghana, followed by Egypt, Nigeria and Burkina Faso in the top five.
Completing the top 10 is Senegal, South Africa, Cameroon, Algeria and Tunisia respectively.
Bafana head coach Pitso Mosimane said: “We are not worried about the latest position in the FIFA world rankings because there are a number of countries that have been playing in other confederations while we were not in action.
“We can’t do much with our position at the moment as we know we recently defeated Tanzania and held Egypt to a goalless draw in away matches.
“With the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Niger coming up in September and Sierra Leone in October, we are confident that a positive result will give us a favourable move and restore our place on the rankings.”
On the world rankings, Spain is still top of the pack, followed by the Netherlands, Germany, England, and Brazil. Others in the top 10 are Italy, Portugal, Croatia, Mexico and Argentina respectively.
The next FIFA rankings will be released on Wednesday, 27 July.
