The District Chief Executive (DCE) of the Abura Asebu Kwamankese (AAK) District, Mr. William Atta-Mends, says the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government is committed to resourcing the police in the country to enable them perform their duties without hindrances.

He observed that most police personnel in the rural areas work under strenuous conditions owing to lack of facilities and logistics such as proper police posts, vehicles, communication gadgets and computers.

Mr. Atta-Mends made these remarks when he handed over a renovated old AAK Assembly building to the District Police Commander, ASP Bernard Twum Barimah, on Sunday at Abura Dunkwa, as their new office.

The occasion also coincided with the annual get-together of the police in the district.

The renovated building, according to Mr. Atta-Mends, is to serve as the district police office and cost GH ¢15,000, including chairs, a refrigerator and a computer

He added that the assembly had asked the traditional rulers in the area to release land for the construction of a new district police station, so as to ensure peace. He commended the police for ensuring peace in the area in the face of inadequate logistics and urged them to keep it up as the assembly mobilises funds to assist them.

Mr. Atta-Mends took over office about two months ago, and is focused on addressing the socio-economic problems in the area.

ASP Bernard Twum Barimah revealed in his address that the whole district did not have a vehicle, while there was no single communication gadget for the district office, and that he always uses his mobile phone to connect others.

This, he said, often becomes difficult when his battery is low, resulting in the termination of communication in the whole area between him and his subordinates.

ASP Twum Barimah said there were 45 police personnel in the district, which he said, was inadequate, taking into account the protection his outfit has to provide for the nine banks in the area.

He, therefore, thanked the DCE for his timely intervention and called on individuals, organisations and the general public to help resource the police in the area.

The Divisional Police Commander, ACP Kofi Dwumfour Berchie, who is based in Assin Fosu, said more police personnel would be posted to area to beef up security, as more police recruits would soon come out of training.

He also called on residents in the area to refrain from rape and defilement acts, because the law would catch up with them. The Member of Parliament for AAK, Anthony Christian Dadzie, pledged to provide computers and a printer to the police command in the area very soon.

The occasion was chaired by Nana Osam Kwesi VII, Odikro of Abura Dunkwa.

During the ceremony the police personnel danced to the admiration of the onlookers.
