Judiciary outfit Mahakama return to the Kenya Premier League remained on course as the Nationwide Football League reached its halfway stage. Mahakama relegated from the top flight league last season lead the sixteen team second division league on goal difference after their match against perennial promotion contenders KRA was called off due to heavy rains.

Mahakama have 27 points same as Coast side Magongo Rangers who wasted a glorious opportunity to go top after they fell to a 3-1 to third placed Admiral who are now two points behind the leading duo. Two-time national league champions Oserian were placed fourth with 24 points after they were beaten by a solitary goal in the Naivasha derby, pitting them and Homegrown. Mathare Youth who two years ago basked in the limelight of top flight football had their match against Nairobi Stima called off.

Stima coach Michael Amenga who once led current leaders Mahakama to promotion remained optimistic that his side will eventually come good and get into one of the two places up for grabs to join Kenya’s elite clubs. “We are where we expected to be at this time in the league and I am confident we will catch up with the rest of the pack when the second leg starts. I believe we have a team capable of finishing within the top two,” he said. Stima are seven points off the pace. At the other end of the table, Opera and Real Kisumu continued to struggle in the relegation zone. Real, who have not had anything to cheer about so far in the season continued on their downward trend as they lost 2-1 against AC Nakuru while Opera enjoyed a rare win, beating college lads Strathmore 1-0 to get off the bottom of the league.
