ACTING Chama District Council secretary Chester Ng’ambi has praised the Government, through the Ministry of Local Government and Housing for releasing K300 million for drilling of 10 boreholes in the district.
Mr Ng’ambi said the council intended to sink five boreholes in Chama North Constituency while the other five would be put up in Chama South Constituency.
He said the release of the money would help improve the water reticulation system in the district.
“The Government has given the council K300 million for the sinking of 10 boreholes under the rural water supply and sanitation project,” he said.
Mr Ng’ambi also commended the Government for releasing other grants on time, as they were helping the council run its operations smoothly.
Previously, Chama District Council, ranked among the poorest in the country due to its poor revenue base, experienced many difficulties in paying salaries to its workers.
“As at now, I can say we are up to date with the salaries. We have a workforce of 32 people with a monthly wage bill of K19 million.
“We thank the Government for releasing other grants to the council on time” Mr Ng’ambi said.
