Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas has approached talk of an imminent move to Barcelona with caution as he waits for further news from his current club.

The Gunners conceded they were waiting for an improved bid from Barcelona after reportedly rejecting €30 million £26.9m for their skipper.

Now, speaking publicly over a move back to Spain, Fabregas appeared eager to leave discussions in the hands of both clubs as he shied away from all the hyperbole.

“I’m calm and optimistic. I got nothing to say and there’s nothing I can speak of. If something happens… it’s because it has to happen,” he told press in Spain, as reported by Sport.es.

Reports have continued to give rise to speculation he will return to his former side eight years after leaving them for what was then Highbury, now of course, the Emirates stadium.

Arsenal have often stood firmly against a sale of the 24-year-old. However, it seems his future may come down to raw finances as the Gunners may finally be pushed to sell in light of a top offer from Pep Guardiola’s side.

“If a player is in the market it is because his club doesn’t want him. I have no problems over that,” he concluded.
