Kaduna — The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), on Tuesday demanded N500 billion as compensation for the families of its members killed during the post election crisis in the state.
MACBAN made the demand at the ongoing public hearing, conducted by the Federal Government Investigation Panel on the Post Election Crisis, led by Sheik Ahmad Lemu.
According to the spokesman of the association, Husseini Kachia, the money would serve as compensation for the lives, cattles and property lost during the crisis.
Kachia said that members of the group lost thousands of heads of cows, following attacks on them by their assailants.
He said the assailants killed many breeders and their animals and also razed their houses.
The spokesman said the breeders were humiliated in the southern part of the state, noting that the incident was the first calamity that ever happened to them in the area.
Kachia alleged that the people of Southern Kaduna had disallowed the breeders to use the grazing lands in the area.
He called on government to create more grazing lands for animals.
“There are 14 grazing fields in the state but only four were gazetted while the remaining nine were encroached by farmers.”
In its submission, the Evangelical Church of West Africa (ECWA), said that three pastors and 52 members were killed during the crisis.
Its spokesman, Andrew Maisamari, made the presentation, saying that 42 churches were also destroyed.
Maisamari said that ECWA demanded N1.9 billion for the renovation of the churches and the property destroyed during the crisis.
He urged government to release the reports of the previous judicial commissions of inquiry in the interest of justice and fair play.
