Nairobi — Harambee Stars’s liaison officer, Hussein Terry, will be gunning for National Executive Committee membership in the forthcoming football elections.
Former international Sammy Sholei has in the meantime asked former football players based abroad to contest for positions in the August 13 polls.
Shollei, who leaves the country today to meet more than 12 ex-footballers in the US, says only through a unity of purpose by all footballers will the sport achieve the desired goals.
The former Tusker FC and Harambee Stars midfielder is on invitation to the USA by Felix Makacha, who played for Kenya in 1997 under the tutelage of German coach Reinhardt Fabisch.
According to Makacha, Kenyan ex-footballers in diaspora want to have a say in the running of the sport and will raise money to support a candidate they believe will work for the interest of football.
Other former players living abroad include Allan Odhiambo, Agrippa Nyanje, Edwin Odipo, Chris Ojiambo, Vincent Kwarula, Eric ‘Cantona’ Ochieng, John ‘Baresi’ Odhiambo.
The National Executive Committee membership has attracted Terry, a Fifa agent, is out to use his experience in football administration to streamline the management of the local sport, which he said is wanting.
“I have been watching events unfold in the local scene and I believe strongly that we need real change for the sake of the game,” Terry, who says he will not join any camp in the race to the top, said.
He urged Kenyans to vote in officials who will change the running of the game locally.
