BY INALEGWU SHAIBU AS the seventh Senate resumes tomorrow after its two weeks recess, it will be faced with problems of accommodation for new Senators and screening of ministerial nominees. Although it is not yet known whether the list for the new ministers is already domiciled in the National Assembly, there are feelings that the recess embarked upon by the Senate had delayed the composition of a new cabinet by President Goodluck Jonathan. The Senate is expected to move with speed to clear the air upon resumption.

Wigan manager Roberto Martinez has admitted he has been attempting to secure a number of “big” signings on loan deals for some time.

The Latics boss will be hoping to build up the team after his side escaped relegation from the Premier League on the final day of last season, and while he could have some money to spend should they selll players, Martinez has pinpointed loan signings as they key again next season.

“The big loan signings, the players we’re looking at bringing in, we’ve been following them for the past six months really,” he told the Evening Post.

“With the big players who will make a difference, you need to be working well in advance – and we have been doing just that. We have a clear idea of who we want next season’s loans to be.

“The only limitation we have is that we only have two loans from the Premier League, and we have to be spot on with those.

“Anyone can spot a good player, but whether they are good characters as well – and right for your football club – is much harder.

Goalkeeper Ali Al-Habsi and Manchester United’s Tom Cleverley were two of Wigan’s signings on loan last year, and both are rumoured to be making an appearance next season at the DW Stadium, with Cleverley wanted on loan, but Al-Habis on a permanent deal from Bolton.
