Court acquits 6 Osun ACN chieftains of attempted murder charge

    OSOGBO—Six chieftains of Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, in Osun State who had been standing trial in a case of alleged conspiracy, attempted murder and arson since 2007 were yesterday discharge and acquitted by an Osun State High Court.

    Those set free by the court are Alhaji Fatai Oyedele Diekola, Senator Bayo Salami, Osun State Deputy Speaker, Hon Adegboye Akintunde, Hon. Olaide Ajibola, Dada Lawrence Dele and Mr. Sunday Laoye, the senior brother of the Osun State Deputy Governor, Otunba Grace Titilayo Tomori-Laoye.

    They were accused of arson along with others who were at large, and attempted murder of Alhaji Fatai Adeleke, Alhaji Adeleke Odunola and Alhaji Raheem Olakunlehin, all PDP chieftains in the state on the 15thApril 2007 at Osogbo Judiacial division.

    The ACN’s chieftains were also accused conspired with others of conspiring then to set ablaze  one PDP bus and a Mercedes Benz car 230 with plate number Osun 670 GNN valued N1.1 million belonging to Alhaji Raheem Olakunlehin.

    They were further alleged to have set ablaze a building at No. 5 Wasimi Street, Igbonna valued at N20million, property of Alhaji Fatai Adeleke and another building at Oke-Ayepe, Shopping Complex at Odi-Olowo, a petrol station at Oke-Baale, properties of Alhaji Tajudeen Oladipo, who is the  National Vice Chairman of PDP in the South-West valued at over N35million.

    The prosecution, O F Akintayo also alleged that the accused set ablaze and burnt four cars including a Benz 300 V-Boot, valued at N900,000.00, one 18-seater Toyota bus, valued at N850,000.00 and a motorcycle, valued at N60,000.00, belonging to one Alhaji Adeleke Oduola.
