Former Chelsea boss Avram Grant believes the club’s new manager Andre Villas-Boas will get on well with Roman Abramovich because the owner is easy to work with.

Abramovich has built up a reputation of being hard to please at Chelsea having dispensed of six managers since 2005, even sacking Grant despite bringing the Blues a penalty kick away from winning the Champions League.

But the Israeli believes that Villas-Boas will work well under the owner due to the Russian’s generosity.

He told talkSPORT: “It’s very easy to work under Roman Abramovich.

“I’ve read people in the paper saying that he interferes but it’s not true. He gives you everything you want and you are even sometimes afraid to say something because you know the day after you will have it.

“If you see the facilities at Cobham and even the academy it is at a top, top level.

“He is a perfectionist. He wants to achieve the best and he will give you everything to achieve the best, so he wants the results. But he’s easy to work with.”

Villas-Boas is, at 33, the same age as Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba and many have suggested his appointment is a big risk

However, Grant is backing the Portuguese coach to succeed at Stamford Bridge.

He added: “Andre’s very young but he’s been involved in football a long time.

“We need to remember that when Jose Mourinho came he didn’t have much more experience than him. He was at Porto for two years. And Pep Guardiola came straight into the Barcelona job after managing Barcelona B.”
