Rome — The outgoing director general of FAO, Jacques Diouf, thanked on Sunday the support of Angola during his 18 years in charge of this UN agency.
Jacques Diouf, who will leave the managing board of FAO in December, expressed his gratitude to Angola during an audience that he granted to the Angolan State Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Manuel Augusto.
Manuel Augusto integrates an Angolan delegation that is attending the 37th Conference of FAO, which is taking place in Rome from 25 June to 2 July.
On the other hand, FAO official congratulated the positive results regarding the efforts made by the Angolan government in seeking for food security in the country.
On his turn, Manuel Augusto praised the skills and dynamism of Jacques Diouf during his presidency in FAO regarding the eradication of hunger in the world.
Jacques Diouf will be replaced by the Brazilian Graziano da Silva, who was elected on Sunday with 92 votes out of 191 members of FAO.
