QPR are reportedly lining up a shock move to bring Italian defender Fabio Cannavaro to Loftus Road on a free transfer, according to The News of the World.
The 37-year-old World Cup-winning captain was released from Dubai side Al-Ahli, and has apparently attracted the interest of QPR owner and compatriot Flavio Briatore, who wants a big-name signing.
Cannavaro rejected a coaching role at Al-Ahli in a bid to prolong his playing career, and said that he does not yet know when he will finally retire from football.
“I have not yet decided when I will retire,” he told Sky Sports when pressed on his future.
A season in the Premier League is reportedly seen by some as the perfect ending to his glittering career, which saw Cannavaro captain Italy to World Cup glory in 2006, play for Juventus and Real Madrid, and win the FIFA World Player of the Year award, also in 2006.
