Swansea City legend Alan Curtis has said that his former club must enjoy their time in the Premier League while grabbing the opportunity with both hands.
Swansea became the first side from Wales to reach the Premier League, and Curtis, a forward during the Swans’ last spell in the top flight during the 1980s, believes the players will thrive under the spotlight as long as there is a sense of enjoyment.
Curtis told the club’s official website: “The players have to enjoy being in the Premier League.
“If they express themselves then we will benefit a lot from that.
“You can understand sometimes watching teams going to Old Trafford or Anfield and freezing a little bit.
“But our boys will be going to great stadiums like that realising that they are playing there because they deserve it.
“They are Premier League players now, and what more can you ask for as a player than being given the opportunity to showcase your talents on the big stage?
“Of course, everyone seems to think we are destined for the drop before we even report back for pre-season training.
“But we were tipped for the drop last season just moments after manager Brendan Rodgers arrived, so it shows that we are capable of upsetting the odds.”
Curtis also spoke of the excitement surrounding the club in the city of Swansea, and took time to praise Rodgers.
He enthused: “And we also have a terrific manager in Brendan Rodgers. I call him a wily old fox even though he is a young manager.
“But he has tremendous knowledge, works very well with the players and gets the best out of them.
“So Swansea City is a very exciting place to be. The buzz around the club is fantastic.
“Everyone is talking about the club and the Premier League.”
