Abuja – An Abuja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Thursday ordered that one Emmanuel Odigiri be remanded in prison after he pleaded not guilty to charges of defrauding a church.
The Police Prosecutor, Mr Philips Akogwu, told the court that on May 29, Pastor Dele Adeleke told the police that Odigiri defrauded the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Asokoro of N2 million.
Giving the facts of the case, Akogwu said that on Nov. 24, 2008, Adeleke gave the accused a cheque of N2 million to cash on behalf of the church.
He said that the money was to enable the church buy a piece of land at Asokoro Cadastral zone, Abuja for the church building.
Akogwu said that after the accused cashed the money, he converted it to his personal use and absconded to an unknown destination.
He said during investigation, it was discovered that the accused had used the money to acquire landed property for himself.
He said, “He bought a land at Kuje located at plot 6960 and another in Nasarawa State at Pada. He has also built a house in Nasarawa State where he now lives.’’
The accused, who was charged with criminal breach of trust and cheating, pleaded not guilty and was remanded in prison.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Okeagu Azubike, adjourned the case to July 13, for further hearing. (NAN)
