Kampala — Proline will, in their newly established partnership with San Roque de Lepe, send six of their players to Spain.

Roque de Lepe are a third tier Spanish club playing in Segunda B. Defenders Ivan Bukenya, who has just spent two weeks undergoing trials with Sudanese club Al Hilal and Ronnie Kisekka, plus striker Patrick Edema are the players Spain-bound.

The release signed by Proline secretary William Bakkabulindi also has Simon Mbaziira and Alex Kakuba, who have spent a full season with Portugal’s Second Division side Desporstivo de Agueda, as the other players transferring to San Roque. “Sulaiman Matovu ‘Malouda’ is also expected to join his counterparts when his loan deal with St. George expires early next month,” Bakkabulindi’s statement adds.

For Bukenya, it was double joy as Proline faithful voted him Fans’ Player of the Year at the club’s end of season retreat held at Jinja’s Hotel Triangle last weekend. Richard Luyima won the overall Player of the Year award with Johnson Luyiga running away with the First Division Player of the Year gong. Sadiq Bunju earned Academy Player of the Year while Yusuf Ssenabulya was voted Most Disciplined Player. Fans voted Buluhani Galiwango the supporter of the year.

Promotion saga

Meanwhile, in a bid to end the running club promotion/relegation circus between Uganda Super League and Fufa, USL board boss Kavuma Kabenge has sought the intervention of the federation president Lawrence Mulindwa. Kabenge wrote to Fufa on Monday after the federation said USL were using invalid rules to run the league.

“Hope you come back to us as soon as possible so as to forge a way forward,” Kabenge’s letter to Fufa, reads in part. USL want two teams promoted from the lower division – the Big League – while Fufa insist on three.
