    Cameroon’s Ambassador to Japan, Pierre Ndzengue used celebrations marking the 39th edition of Cameroon’s National Day last May 20 to address a message of sympathy and solidarity to the government and people of Japan following the devastating earthquake and tsunami of March 11, 2011.

    “The government and people of Cameroon seize the opportunity of the National Day to, once again assure the friendly government and people of Japan of their compassion following this catastrophe”.

    President Paul Biya of Cameroon reacting after the earthquake and tsunami, sent a condolence message to Emperor Akihito and also instructed that the Cameroon Embassy be kept opened. A requiem mass was also organised at the Our Lady of Victory Cathedral in down town Yaounde attended by senior members of Cameroon government and members of the diplomatic corps in honour of the victims of the earthquake and tsunami.

    The ambassador taking into account the reactions from the various levels of government, used the National Day message to appreciate the efforts of the Japanese government to provide information on the crisis and the determination to clean up and reconstruct the devastated zones. He lauded the mutually beneficial relations and cooperation between the two countries and expressed the determination of Cameroonians to “foster sincere friendship ties within the communities where they reside”.
