Nairobi — Sofapaka’s frustrations in the Kenyan Premier League continued with a barren draw yesterday at the Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega against Western Stima.
Coach Francis Kimanzi had on Sunday after their elimination from the CAF Confederation Cup said his side would focus on winning all the matches in the KPL to claim the league title the side won in 2009.
But it was once again a dour showing with Stima frustrating the highly experienced and talented Sofapaka side from the onset.”I can say we have lost two points. It was a frustrating game but you have to understand the boys are still tired from the match on Sunday but a point is better than nothing,” said Kimanzi whose side beat Club Africain 3-1 on Sunday in the Confederation cup second leg but bowed out on a 4-3 aggregate.
Local form wanting
Sofapaka had a good run in the competition eliminating Angola’s Aviacao, Egypt’s Ismailia and Democratic Republic of Congo’s St Eloi Lupopo before their Sunday exit.
But their local form has been wanting. They have only won four times in 12 matches, and have not won a league game since April 6 when they beat Tusker FC.
The result left Sofapaka in the ninth position with 17 points from 13 games, eleven points behind leaders Rangers.Stima remain fifth with 22 points from 14 matches.
Stima coach Henry Omino was content with the point but felt his boys deserved a win after pinning Sofapaka in their half.
