THE MMD has no preferred candidates to stand as members of Parliament and has appealed to its members to remain calm and not to be intimidated by anyone during the adoption process.
MMD Acting National Secretary Chembe Nyangu said the secretariat was encouraging all those wishing to apply to feel free to apply and lodge in their applications for respective constituencies without feeling intimidated by anyone during the process. Mr Nyangu said in a press statement that the party would also like to warn the general membership to cooperate with the party leadership and not to lose respect for each other.
He said the MMD secretariat has received very disturbing reports that some senior party members mostly those serving as members of parliament were spreading false rumours that President Rupiah Banda had preferred candidates to stand as MPs in the forth coming elections. He said the secretariat would like to categorically refute the baseless and unfounded claims by some senior party members. Mr Nyangu said ” the party would like to reaffirm the party president’s address to the media on 1 June 2011 that the grassroots would decideâ-¨who should be their parliamentary candidate and this is the current official position of the party” said Mr Nyangu.
