Arsenal‘s Jens Lehmann is set to join Schalke after the German club offered the goalkeeper a one-year deal, according to Stuttgarter Zeitung.
The 41-year-old retired in 2010 but returned to football in March when he signed a short-term contract with former club Arsenal.
Lehmann was expected to hang up his gloves once again, but Schalke’s approach could see the veteran extend his career even further.
The Gelsenkirchen side are looking for an experienced back-up to new signing Ralf Fahrmann and they consider Lehmann to be the perfect man for the job.
Schalke are reportedly already in advanced talks with the keeper, and the former Germany international is expected to sign a contract until the summer of 2012 in the coming days.
