Nairobi — Kilome MP Harun Mwau’s battles against drug trafficking allegations go back a long way.

He has gone to court at least twice. First he sued the Nation for defamation after it linked him to Pepe, a company that had been mentioned adversely in a drug trafficking case.

He has also sued former US ambassador to Kenya Michael Ranneberger for naming him alongside two other MPs in a report on drug lords.

Also sued is the Attorney General for allowing the ambassador to publish a report that was injurious to him.

The former ambassador filed a criminal complaint with the Minister for Internal Security George Saitoti and Police Commissioner on December 7, 2010.

Mr Mwau claimed he has never been “involved, contemplated or even dreamt of being involved in trafficking narcotic drugs and does not know any person who sells, buys or consumes narcotics of any nature”.

He said he was shocked when he was named in Parliament on December 22, last year, as one of the drug barons in the country.

And as a result of the allegations, Mr Mwau said, he was likely to suffer atrocious international surveillance and behavioural profiling unjustly because of elaborate and continuous media publication of the diplomat’s allegations.

Among the declarations being sought by the Kilome MP is that the dossier by Mr Ranneberger is false.

The MP wants the court to order the state to delete his name from the report and expunge the allegations and his name from the complaint.
