ABUJA—A modern fertilizer blending plant for each of the six geo-political zones is to be constructed by the Federal Government this year, in a deliberate effort to grow the economy through job creation and boost agricultural production across the country.
Vice President Namadi Sambo stated this during an audience with the United States Ambassador to Nigeria, Terrence McCulley, who led two US Congressional members on a congratulatory visit to the Vice President over a successful inauguration.
Sambo stated that each of the six geo-political zones would get one of the six plants, and thanked the United States for her various support through grants to enable Nigeria provide consultancy service for its hydro-power plants. He said President Jonathan’s administration would embark on aggressive development in the next five years.
He gave assurance of government’s determination to pursue the “Power Sector Reform Roadmap”, hinting that the 10 thermal power plants currently under construction, when completed, would lead to an additional 5000Mw of electricity to the national grid, development of multi-purpose dams and irrigations schemes, large hydro power plants in Mambila and Zungeru; transportation in the areas of railways, deep seaports, improvement of airports, inland waterways, dredging of the River Niger already at about 60% completion and plan to dredge River Benue.
On Nigeria’s education roadmap and the journey so far, Sambo stated that efforts were being made to develop local gas capacity, transparency and good governance. He urged the congressmen to encourage American businessmen to come and invest in these sectors, assuring them of good returns in no time.
The vice president also reiterated government’s seriousness in tackling the issue of corruption as well as its commitment to the total resolution of the conflicts in Southern Sudan.
