West Brom manager Roy Hodgson credited his players for continuing to fight on even though they were three goals behind during their Black Country derby with Wolves.
The former Liverpool manager spoke to Sky Sports after the game, saying: “People are going to go ahead and say that you weren’t at it and Wolves were, but those people obviously didn’t watch the game, because anyone who had watched the game would have been more than aware than the team did its level best to get into the game.”
“But of course we shot ourselves in the foot by conceding two goals from corners and one from a flagrant error.”
Hodgson was asked about his side’s second half performance, which saw Peter Odemwingie score from the penalty spot to reduce the deficit, and said: “We had some great chances, the fact is there were some really good efforts, we hit the crossbar, there were two shots that went millimetres wide.
“We had a lot of opportunities in their box and did our level best to get back from 3-1 down, which I don’t think many teams would have done at this stage of the season when they’re safe and they’ve got the beach to look forward, and there’s no question of that.”
The West Brom manager then finished off by claiming that the reason his side lost was: “We lost because we couldn’t defend two corner kicks and that’s it.”
