The Namibia Basketball Federation (NBF) said this week that the recent visit of a German delegation has opened doors for a new friendship and chapter of cooperation between the Namibian and German Basketball Federations.

Ingo Weiss, president of the German Basketball Federation (DBB), led a high-powered delegation which consisted ofthe chairperson of the German Sports Youth and committee member of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB). The delegation was in the country on a four day working visit.

“I would like to thank both our friends from Germany as well as the German government and embassy in the country for their support of Namibian Basketball. We are looking forward to our future cooperation,”said Kerii Tjitendero, the president of NBF, at the recent reception hosted for the delegation at the German mission residence.

Frank Albin, a German basketball expert, told the Economist this week that the visit involved discussion about further support and cooperation, as well as progress made in Namibian basketball and long-term projects regarding the game.

The delegation also paid a courtesy visit to the deputy minister of Youth, National Services, Sport and Culture, Pohamba Shifeta and the director of sports at the ministry, Dr Vetumbuavi Veii.

Both Shifeta and Dr Veii requested that the long-term basketball project through which Albin provides Namibian coaches with expertise, knowledge and training on how to create sustainable structures for the game, be extended for another two years.

The Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Namibia, Egon Kochanke, said that the embassy fully supports an extension of the project.
