Contrary to reports in some newspapers, it has been established that the Inspector-General of Police Mr. Hafiz Ringim has not been recalled home ahead of schedule or on the orders of President Goodluck Jonathan.
According to a source close to the IG, the police boss will return to the country tomorrow (today) as earlier scheduled. at the conclusion of his assignment. Said the source; “The Inspector-General of Police went on this trip with the knowledge and approval of Mr. President.
“As scheduled the IG met with the top echelon of United States’ Federal Bureau of Investigation and the State Department. The only assignment he did not fulfill was the keynote address he was supposed to deliver at the Centre for Strategic and International Studies, CSIS, in Washington DC and this is due to the invitation by the Nigerian Senate to all the Service Chiefs”.
The Police chief had been scheduled to deliver a keynote address on “The Challenges of Police reform in Africa” at the CSIS, but this had to be cancelled due to the Senate invitation to the service chiefs to brief the Senate on the current security situation in the country.
