The Zambia International Trade Fair (ZIFT) says it will this year for the first time host an amateur boxing championship at its show in Ndola.
ZIFT acting general manager, Jonathan Simwawa said yesterday that his organisation decided to organise the competition as part of entertainment for the 2011 event.
Simwawa said ZIFT management also wanted to attract all members of society, hence its decision to organise a boxing bonanza.
“We want to provide entertain for all show goers; I am sure it will be full of sparks; this is the first time we are having boxing,” he said. He said the boxing event, which was being organised for the first time during the Trade Fair, would be hosted at the small arena.
Simwawa said the Zambia amateur boxing team preparing for the 2011 All-Africa Games would be among the boxers competing at the event.
The boxers would use the Trade Fair event to prepare for the games in the Mozambican capital Maputo in September.
