Daily News community affairs editor Thelma Chikwanha, who of late has been writing speculative stories on President Mugabe’s health, yesterday met the Head of State and Government and Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces at the Harare International Airport in person who jokingly told her he was ready to prove his fitness and wellness.

The President was leaving for Equatorial Guinea to attend the Africa Union Summit.

The President, who was very friendly to Chikwanha, held her by the shoulders and shook her before jokingly challenging her to a fistfight to prove that he is fit and strong.

Chikwanha, who appeared overwhelmed by President Mugabe’s energetic posture, could not help but admire him.

The private media has been awash with speculation on President Mugabe’s health saying he has prostate cancer when in actual fact he had an eye cataract operation in Asia.

About two weeks ago, Chikwanha claimed that President Mugabe’s health had “reached fever pitch” after he visited the Medical Chambers.

In yesterday’s edition, Chikwanha reported that President Mugabe’s second visit to the Medical Chambers on Tuesday had heightened speculation about his health.
