uniBank Ghana Limited has won the Enterprise Category Award in the enviable Africa Leadership Awards of the Graduate School of Governance and Leadership held in Accra.

The bank beat several financial intermediaries to win the award showcasing its commitment and support to Small and Medium scale Enterprises (SMEs) in Ghana.

This was in line with the stated objectives of the SME department, which has offered timely support to SMEs to grow their business, leading to job creation and economic empowerment.

Samuel Sakyi-Hyde, Head of SME Banking, who received the award, noted that the bank’s dedication to SMEs had been acknowledged and lauded the hard working staff for delivering quality service to the clientele over the years.

According to him, a core aspect of the bank’s primary focus is to provide a comprehensive range of financial solutions and products to its SME customers.

This has positioned the banks as a key player in SME financing on the local market and distinguished it as a viable partner to facilitate the growth and expansion of SME business, he said.

He added that the bank has taken the initiative to increase its support for SME businesses this year by increasing its loans and advance portfolio for the 2011 fiscal year.

This strategy, in addition to innovative activities like the department’s monthly mass marketing campaigns, were to consolidate the bank’s efforts in capturing a larger share of the SME market in Ghana.

uniBank is currently celebrating its 10th anniversary under the theme, ‘A Decade of an Indigenous Bank’s Solid Footprints in Ghana.’

At the launch of the anniversary early this year, Opoku-Gyamfi Boateng, Board Chairman of the bank said, “Our commitment to the SME segment will remain paramount in the next decade. We plan to identify more promising entrepreneurs and nurture them to become business giants.

“We are determined as a bank to leverage on our state-of-the-art Information Technology (IT) infrastructure to develop a lot of e-banking product in the ensuing years. We therefore pledge to provide superlative services that are accessible to the consumer.”

The awards ceremony was organized under the auspices of the Graduate School of Governance and Leadership to recognize contribution of individuals and organizations that have redefined leadership to mean service for the people, communities and nations.
