Brendan Rodgers has categorically denied that he is looking to bring Polish goalkeeper Grzegorz Sandomierski to his Premier League new boys Swansea, but admitted that the position is one he wants to strengthen.

The Swans’ first choice keeper Dorus de Vries recently joined Wolves, leaving Rodgers in search of not one but two reinforcements between the posts, and reports had linked Sandomierski with the club.

Speaking to the South Wales Evening Post, Rodgers said: “I have read that we are after him, but I have never heard of the guy before.

“I have also had about five agents ringing me up who are supposedly representing the lad. It’s a case of welcome to the Premier League I think.”

Sandomierski, 21, plays for Jagiellonia Bialystok in his native Poland, and made his international debut last year.

“We have got people in mind, but he is not one of them,” Rodgers continued.

“We are actually looking for a No.1 and a No.2.”

The former Watford and Reading manager expressed his dismay at the departure of De Vries, who had played a crucial role in the club’s promotion last season.

“Dorus was obviously a big part of my plans and I am surprised and disappointed that he’s gone to be honest.

“I was led to believe the negotiations were going well, but he has decided to go and be a No.2 goalkeeper in the Premier League rather than a No.1 goalkeeper in the Premier League.

“But, like every club, we move on, and we must now focus on who is going to come in.”

Rodgers also commended the only keeper currently on the books at the Liberty Stadium, Yves Ma-Kalambay, and revealed that the DR Congo international will be offered a new contract.

“Yves will be offered another deal – he is an outstanding support goalkeeper and he was very loyal last season,” the Northern Irishman said.

“He is one I would like to keep, but we still need two more keepers going into the Premier League.”

Swansea have bought one player so far this summer, spending a club record £2.5 million on striker Danny Graham.
