Steve Bruce is pleased that Sunderland have secured the signature of South Korean striker Ji Dong-Won and believes he will be a success once he has adapted to the Premier League.
Ji was confirmed as a Sunderland player on Thursday, having signed a three-year contract at the Stadium of Light.
Bruce told the club’s official website: “The boy has been in fantastic form for both club and country and he was one of South Korea’s stand-out performers at the Asian Cup so we are delighted to bring him to Sunderland.
“I believe Ji can be an excellent acquisition and he has certainly impressed us over the long period we have been watching him.”
The 20-year-old Ji has already scored six goals in 11 international matches, including four in this year’s Asian Cup, where South Korea finished third.
And his new manager Bruce is sure that the striker can add his name to the lengthening list of South Koreans to have adapted successfully to the English game.
“The Barclays Premier League is very different to the K-League so there is hard work ahead but you just have to look at players like Park Ji-Sung and Lee Chung-Yong to see how well Korean players are adapting to its pace and physicality,” he observed.
Ji joins fellow youngster Connor Wickham in the new-look Sunderland forward line as the club continues to rebuild following the sale of star forward Darren Bent in January.
