LAGOS— CHAIRMAN, Presidential committee on public awareness on security and civic responsibilities, Dr. Abdullateef Adegbite, yesterday assured that his committee would ensure full implementation of its reports to the Presidency, saying the present committee was distinct to other committees earlier set up in the country.
Adegbite made this known when members of his committee paid a courtesy visit to the corporate head office of Vanguard Newspapers, in Apapa, Lagos, yesterday.
According to him, “this committee is quite different from the kind of committees that have been set up. We will see to it that we do not only make suggestions, but that the recommendations are implemented. So we will follow up every recommendation we make.
“In other words, we will make recommendations and follow up the implementation and I can assure you if need be, we will physically move from ministry to ministry to ensure that our reports and recommendations are not just dumped in the thrash can.”
Adegbite, however, lamented the present spate of violence, especially bombings in country which he described as unfortunate.
Calling on the media to partner and play a major role as stakeholders in the security and peaceful co-existence of Nigerians, Adegbite said: “As watchdog of the society and major stakeholder in bringing about positive change of values and re-orientation of the citizenry, your role cannot be undermined towards taking a front role in championing this public awareness and security crusade amongst citizens here in Lagos State and indeed the whole country.
“We, therefore, call on all of you to join hands with the committee and the good people of Nigeria to inculcate the spirit of security-consciousness as our cardinal principle and way of life.”
