Queens Park Rangers have released a statement confirming that manager Neil Warnock has not resigned.

The 62-year-old took over as boss at the club in March 2010 and subsequently guided them to promotion in his first full season in charge.

But there has been speculation surrounding his future after Peterborough director of football Barry Fry revealed on Wednesday that striker Craig Mackail-Smith turned down a move to Loftus Road because Warnock could not give him assurances that he would stay in the job.

A statement on the club’s official website reads: “The club is aware of rumours circulating today with regards to the future of QPR manager Neil Warnock.

“The club would like to make it clear that Neil Warnock has not resigned from his post and is continuing to work hard behind-the-scenes ahead of the R’s return to pre-season training next week.”

Warnock added: “We’ve targeted a number of players during the last few weeks and although we’ve missed out on some, the board are continuing to work hard to assist me in bringing new additions to the football club.

“I’m confident that we’ll have a few new players on board in the next couple of weeks.

“With regards to my own position, I’m really excited about the challenge that lies ahead next season and I can’t wait for pre-season training next week.”

The club have had 13 managers since the end of Ian Holloway’s five-year tenure in 2006.

Holloway took Blackpool to promotion in the 2009-10 season, and was applauded by many for his team’s attitude and style of play, but did not have such success with QPR.

Warnock has experienced life in the Premier League before with Sheffield United, but was unable to keep the club in the top flight and they were relegated after a single season.

After resigning from the relegated club he joined Crystal Palace in October 2007, but left to join QPR after they went into administration in 2009 following the club’s severe financial problems.

Prior to his seven-and-a-half-year stretch at Bramall Lane, the veteran coach managed an array of clubs including Burton Albion, Huddersfield Town and Plymouth Argyle.
