The NPP said for more than two years into the NDC led government, nothing seemed to be happening in the region, which was a major worry to the people, and that it was incumbent on the NPP as the biggest opposition party to come out with realities on the ground, particularly in the Ho Municipality.
Speaking at a press conference in Ho, the Head of the Ho Municipal Research Unit of the NPP, Mr. Paul Abba stressed that his party was prepared to put the government on its toes for the officials to be aware of the failure of the NDC to deliver on its ‘Better Ghana Agenda’ promise made to the people of the Volta region and the Ho Municipality in particular.
Mr. Abba said it was unfortunate that the Ho Municipal branch of the NDC recently held a press conference in Ho, where the party claimed that the government was on course and that ‘anybody who thinks they are doing nothing is expecting them to work beyond the boundaries of Ho to Togo.’
He pointed out that the statements made by their opponent were misleading and did not represent the true picture of development in the Municipality, and stated that the people in the Ho Municipality and the Volta region in general could favourably compare the nineteen years governance and achievements of NDC One, to the over two years governance by the same party, led by Prof. Mills and the eight years of the NPP government led by Mr. J.A Kuffour.
Mr. Abba stated that the failure of the NDC government to deliver according to the promises made to the people of the Volta region had led to the postponement of the President Mills intended visit to the region.
Mr. Abba disclosed that the NPP had in its possession ‘a letter dated 6th March, 2011, which was signed for the Municipal Chief Executive by the Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. E.O Gidiglo, addressed to institutions and Departments within the Ho Municipality, requesting them to compile the lists of all projects executed since January 2009, and projects awarded but yet to be started.
Mr. Aban stressed that it was clear that there was no development projects to be photographed that the President could base his visit on to inaugurate, hence the postponement of his visit to the region.
According to him, the NDC was only successful in collapsing the health delivery system left by the NPP, alleging that the government had gradually started introducing the cash and carry system in Volta region.
Mr. Abba pointed out that issues of sanitation in the Municipality, health delivery system and road network have all were all worsened under the Mills led administration and that there was nothing new in the Ho Municipality in particular and the Volta region in general that the NDC could claim ownership.
He said all the new things found in the region were done by the NPP and challenged the NDC to come out boldly to show the people one single project that the NDC implemented and completed, because anything that the President would be shown as completed projects were those projects that were started by the NPP before it left office.
‘We have read with interest and amusement , the desperate attempt by some concerned members of the NDC ‘to dig for’ nonexistent achievements of Prof. Mills and the NDC government in the Ho Municipality, as contained in their press statement they had recently held.’
Mr. Abba said the NDC was behaving in the Volta region as if the people were blind and could not see the said developments the party claimed it had delivered within the past two years, a situation he described as throwing dust into the eyes of the people and that the NPP had brought more development to the people of the Volta region than the first NDC and the current NDC government.
