West Bromwich Albion defender Gabriel Tamas has admitted it would be his “dream” to join Lazio.
Reports claim Claudio Lotito, the Lazio president, has been in talks with the Premier League outfit over a £450,000 loan transfer, with an option to make the deal permanent next year for over £2 million.
And the Romanian stopper, 27, who is contracted to West Brom until 2014, is keen on seeing the move take shape.
“My dream is to play in Italy for Lazio. It would be great, but I don’t want to speak about the deal which is taking place,” he told Il Corriere dello Sport.
“I hope everything goes for the best, and I am waiting for news from my agents.”
Should the transfer go according to plan, Tamas says he will be ready to walk straight into Serie A action after studying the league.
“I like the Italian league, I know it well and follow it all the time,” he said. “There are great teams and great players there – and I feel ready.”
Tamas joined the English club last year from Dinamo Bucharest and he was a regular starter for his side last season as they avoided relegation.
